FOREMARK RESERVOIR A juvenile Iceland Gull rooted on 13/14th Jan and was joined by a Glaucous x Herring Gull hybrid, an adult Caspian Gull and 5 Yellow Legged Gulls on 14th Jan. On 10th Jan 3 Little Grebes, 21 Great Crested Grebes, 12 Cormorants, 24 Goosanders at dusk, 57 Golden Plover and in the Gull roost were 9 adult Yellow Legged Gulls.
EGGINTON VILLAGE The Lesser Whitethroat still coming into a private garden to feed on the bird tables on 12th Jan. It certainly looks an interesting bird but, so far, the tail pattern has not been seen or photographed. Unfortunately the bird cannot be seen from any public road or pathway
WHOOPER SWANS On 12th Jan a herd of 21 Whooper Swans flew West at 12.30.p.m. This may well have been the same flock which was over Carsington Water and also Wyver Lane DWT Reserve earlier in the day.
OGSTON RESERVOIR A Water Rail from the members hide on 10th Jan and 29 Pink Footed Geese flew SW on 11th Jan. A Shelduck briefly on 12th Jan. A 4th winter Yellow Legged Gull on 10th Jan with an adult roosting the same night. Two Yellow Legged Gulls roosted on 11th Jan-an adult and a first winter-with 2 adults roosting on 12th Jan. An adult Mediterranean Gull roosted on 10th Jan. “Several” Bramblings are stIll present.
CARSINGTON WATER The 2 adult Great Northern Divers still present on 14th Jan along with 28 Barnacle Geese, 15 Snipe, 2 Redshank and a Kingfisher.
DRAKELOW DWT RESERVE A Bittern and 165 Shoveler on 14th Jan.
POOLS BROOK COUNTRY PARK A Caspian Gull on 12th Jan.
KEDLESTON PARK A Red Kite on 12th Jan.
GOYT VALLEY A Great Grey Shrike on 12th Jan.
CHATSWORTH PARK 10 Crossbills on 14th Jan.
WILLINGTON GRAVEL PITS On 12th Jan 4 Great Crested Grebes, 5 Cormorants, 1 Little Egret, 2 Grey Herons, 425 Wigeon, 5 Gadwall, 240 Teal, 27 Shoveler, 9 Pochard, 29 Tufted Duck, 19 Goosanders, 1 Sparrowhawk, 1 Common Buzzard, 1 Kestrel, 1 Water Rail, c250 Lapwings, 2 Snipe, 1 Green Woodpecker, 4 Cettis Warblers and a Jay.
LONG EATON GRAVEL PITS On 14th Jan 3 Little Grebes, 21 Great Crested Grebes, 10 Cormorants, 1 Little Egret, 4 Grey Herons, 54 Wigeon, 10 Gadwall, 4 Teal, 31 Pochard, 85 Tufted Duck, 8 Goldeneye, 4 Goosanders and a Kingfisher.
ST CHADS WATER On 14th Jan 2 Cormorants, 2 Shovelers, 5 Pochard, 15 Tufted Duck and 5 Goosanders.
CHURCH WILNE RESERVOIR On 14th Jan 6 Little Grebes, 12 Great Crested Grebes, 1 Cormorant, 1 Little Egret,12 Canada Geese, 16 Gadwall, 10 Pochard, 103 Tufted Duck, 202 Coot, 1 Common Gull and an ad. Herring Gull.
