WILLINGTON GRAVEL PITS   At about 11.00 a.m. on 30th Apr Keith Walker and Pete Watson had a Spoonbill fly low along the Valley whilst they were at the Fisherman’s Gate. It was going West low being mobbed by Crows. A quick phone call to the inhabitants of the hide proved of no avail as they could not connect with this bird. Probably the 3rd site record.. Also present3 Great Crested Grebes, 17 Cormorants, 1 Grey Heron, 1 Shelduck, 10 Gadwall, 19 Tufted Duck, 4 Oystercatchers, 1 Little Ringed Plover, 2 Redshanks, 2 Common Sandpipers, 6 Common Terns, c25 Swifts, c 70 Sand Martins, c25 Swallows, 1 House Martin, 1 White Wagtail, 4 Cettis Warblers, 1 Reed Warbler, 2 Lesser Whitethroats, 5 Blackcaps, 4 Chiffchaffs, 1 Willow Warbler and the Black Swan. On 29th Ape 1 Sanderling, 1 Whimbrel, 3 Dunlin, 1 White Wagtail, 1 Yellow Wagtail and a Wheatear. On 27th Apr 1 Shoveler, 1 Herring Gull-1st summer, 2 Caspian Gulls-2nd summer with a probable 1st summer also present, 2 Grasshopper Warblers and single Sege and Garden Warblers. On 25th Apr an ad. Kittiwake briefly mid-morning and a Cuckoo on 23rd Apr.

THE SANCTUARY, PRIDE PARK   Still a male Ring Ouzel and a make Whinchat on 1st May. A male Redstart on 30th Apr with 2 Ring Ouzels on 24/25th Apr.

OGSTON RESERVOIR   3 Arctic Terns briefly at 08.50 a.m.

CARSINGTON WATER   Still 3 Great Northern Divers on 1st May, a cream crown Marsh Harrier flew South late morning and an Arctic Tern. On 28th Apr an Osprey present. On 25th Apr 3 summer plumage Black Necked Grebes were by the draw off tower whilst on 24th Apr a Wood Warbler and a male Pied Flycatcher were both on site.

CARR VALE DWT RESERVE   a Pied Flycatcher from 23-25th Apr. A Grasshopper Warbler on 27th Apr with an Osprey flying NW on 28th Apr.

ASTON-ON-TRENT GRAVEL PITS   On  28th Apr 19 Great Crested Grebes, 9 Cormorants, 1 Little Egret, 4 Grey Herons, 1 Grey Lag Goose, 1 Shelduck, 13 Gadwall, 1 Garganey-drake, 100 Tufted Duck, 1 Goldeneye-the usual injured female, 2 Peregrine Falcons, 1 Redshank, 2 imm Herring Gulls and an imm, Great Black Backed Gull flew West, 2 Swift, 3 Cettis Warblers and 10 Blackcaps.

SINFIN MOOR LANE   5 Yellow Wagtails in a ploughed field along with c20 Pied Wagtails and c40 Linnets on 29th Apr.

ST CHADS WATER  2 Common Terns back on 26th Apr.

WiLNE LANE, CHURCH WILNE   2 Oystercatchers and a male Wheatear on 26th Apr.

CHURCH WILNE RESERVOIR   On 26th Apr 8 Great Crested Grebes, 19 Tufted Duck, 1 Sparrowhawk, 1 Common Sandpiper, 2 Swifts, c165 Sand Martins, c10 House Martins and a Grey Wagtail.

FOUR WINDS FARM  NR ASHOVER   The male Dotterel present on 23rd Apr until early evening when a Sparrowhawk flew across the field and the Dotterel was not seen again.

KEDLESTON PARK   An Osprey on 28th Apr.

HILTON GRAVEL PITS   A Red Kite on 28th Apr.

SOUTH WOOD   A female Lesser Spotted Woodpecker heard briefly on 24th Apr.

A confiding male whinchat at The Sanctuary this morning on the NE part of the site. Also a male ring ouzel on the mound as seen from the river path and a lesser whitethroat singing. An LRP flew over the site heading for PP2 over the other side of the river.
