 Thanks to Rod Key for the following:-

LONG EATON GRAVEL PITS   2 Avocets were found by Keith Barker  on the Conservation Pit early morning  on 28th June but both flew of at c8.25 a.m. to be re-found on the New Workings. They remained here until about 9.45 a.m. when they flew off as the weather improved.  This appears to be the first site record since 1993!!!. Also present this morning 2 Little Egrets-an ad and a juv bird. Where have they come from? On 27th June 6 Little Grebes, 27 Great Crested Grebes, 4 Cormorants, 2 Grey Herons, 15 Mute Swans, 1 Grey Lag Goose, 3 Gadwall, 14 Pochard-10 drakes, 25 Tufted Duck included a brood of 1, 3 Oystercatchers, 4 Common Terns, and a Cettis Warbler.

CHURCH WILNE RESERVOIR   On 28th June 17 Great Crested Grebes, 2 Cormorants, 10 Tufted Duck, 20 Coot and 13 Common Terns , 3 of which were ringed with silver rings which could not be read.

WILLINGTON GRAVEL PITS   On 26th June a Caspian Gull, 2 Little Egrets and the drake Wigeon still present along with a Grasshopper Warbler. On 17th June 4 Egyptian Geese, 6 Gadwall, 2Shoveler, 2 Herring Gulls, 1 Yellow Legged Gull-ad and 3 Cettis Warblers.

ASTON-ON-TRENT GRAVEL PITS   On 18th June 3 Great Crested Grebes, 20 Cormorants, 2 Grey Herons, 34 Mute Swans, a pair of Shelduck with 7 small young, 2 Gadwall, 5 Tufted Duck, the injured female Goldeneye still present, 1 Common Buzzard, 1 Kestrel, 1 Oystercatcher, 1 Ringed Plover, 2 Common Terns and 3 Cettis Warblers. Similar numbers on 24th June with 7 Common Terns and c200 Corvids.

OGSTON RESERVOIR   On 20th June an escaped American Kestrel present briefly made a few people move smartly!!!! Also a Greenshank on 20th June

ELTON COMMON   2 calling quail on 20tgh June with at least 1 calling on subsequent dates.

HARTINGTON   A calling Quail heard in a field above a small quarry from 21-24th June at least.

CARR VALE DWT RESERVE  The drake Green Winged Teal last seen on 14th June along with a Hobby and 2 Water Rails. On 15th June 11 Common Buzzards noted along with a Hobby, a Redshank and 3 Common Terns. On 17th June a Hobby and a Peregrine.

OSPREYS   One at Swanwick on 18th June and at Carsington Water on 18/21/23rd June with 1 at Ogston Res on 23rd June and at Ladybower Res on 24th June. One flew NE over Newhall on 24th June.

RED KITES   Single birds at Padley Gorge on 14th June, Pastures Golf Course on 18th June, Denby on 24th June, Leash Fen on 26th Jun and Clifton on 27th June.

MIDDLETON MOOR   2 Yellow Legged Gulls on 22nd June.

DRAKELOW DWT RESERVE   9 Little Egrets, 2 Egyptian Geese, a drake Mandarin and 2 Shoveler on 21st June.

CARSINGTON WATER   3 Common Terns on 19th June along with a Yellow Legged Gull. A Curlew flew West on 21st June.
