4th August 2017 News

Thanks to Roy Frost for the following:-

CARR VALE DWT RESERVE   An adult Caspian Tern was found here late yesterday afternoon-3rd Aug- by Ian Swain walking his dog. It remained until about 6.50 p.m. when after it had circled round for about 30 minutes it flew off SE.  This is the 9th Derbyshire record and the 2nd in two years at this prime site. Almost certain to be the bird that has toured the country and was last seen at Swillington Ings in West Yorkshire a couple of days ago. Any odds on it also being last years bird!!!!

ASTON-ON-TRENT GRAVEL PITS   On 4th Aug 13 Great Crested Grebes, 24 Cormorants, 12 Little Egrets, 12 Grey Herons, 17 Mute Swans, 27 Canada Geese, 26 Gadwall, 6 Teal, 1 Pochard-drake, 213 Tufted Duck, 1 Goldeneye-injured female, 1 Water Rail-calling, 2 Oystercatchers, 1 Little Ringed Plover-ad, c75 Lapwing, 2 Dunlin, 1 Common Sandpiper, 1 Green Sandpiper, 12 Common Tens, 1 Cettis Warbler and a Raven.
