Birding in one of the quietest and wildest parts of the Peak District and because of this, is weather dependent so all members wishing to go must sign up with Martin Kaye with full contact details as it may be cancelled at late notice.

Hoped for species include, buzzard and kestrel, common redstart, willow warbler and on the river, common sandpiper, wagtails, and dipper.  At the Castles, raven and peregrine.

An out and back walk – maximum of 4.5 miles.  First mile is flat, next mile climbs steeply rising 170 metres to Alport Castles.  The walk can be curtailed at any time depending upon the wishes/fitness of the party.  Boots are advised.

Parking is on the A57 Snake Pass 4.2 miles after crossing the 2nd viaduct over the reservoir (coming from Hathersage).  Parking is available on the left for a small number of cars at the entrance to a bridleway.
