JMNR Sightings – 24th July 2018

From logbook – Roy Frost

1 pair Moorhen and 2 juveniles,  1 Kestrel, young Dunnocks calling. 1 immature Painted Lady, 1 Ringlet, 1 Small/Essex Skipper, 3 Gatekeeper, Small/GV Whites. 2 Male Southern Hawkers.

Field, Meadow and Common Green Grasshoppers stridulating.

Kestrel 2, Blackbird, Woodpigeon, Moorhen. GV White 32, Small White 8, Large White 3, (unidentified whites 18), Gatekeeper 17, Small Skipper 2, Essex Skipper 1, Small Copper 5, Speckled Wood 3, Peacock 15, Common Blue 1, Holly Blue 1, Meadow Brown 26, Ringlet 7, Comma 7, Red Admiral 2, Small Tortoiseshell 1. Moths: Udea lutealis 3, Silver y 1, Shaded Broad-bar 1. Brown Hawker 2, Southern Hawker 3 (incl one pair in cop), Common Darter, Azure damsels, Blue-tailed damsel, Ruddy Darter (first record since 2013).  Hoverflies: Eristalis nemorum, Marmalade hoverfly, Myathropa florea, Thick-legged Hoverfly (Syritta pipiens). Noon fly, Carder Bee, Honey Bee, Red-tailed bumblebee, Golden-bloomed Grey-longhorn Beetle, 7-spot ladybird, Cinnamon bug (Corizus hyoscyami), male Amblyjopa proteus ?(a parasitoid of Elephant Hawkmoth).

Hemp Nettle (white), Hemp Agrimony, Bindweed, Angelica, Rowan berries ripening, Buddleia in flower, Cinqfoil, Creeping Thistle, Common Hogweed, Monkey Flower, Common Knapweed, Woody Nightshade, Purple Loosestrife, Meadowsweet, Fleabane, Bramble, Borage, Burdock.
