Lawrencefield, Padley and Burbage – Thu 14/5/20

Date: 14/5/2020 Meeting Point: Road side parking SK258800 on the Grindleford – Foxhouse Road (see maps below – usually a few cars there already) Time: 08:30 Lunch: bring hot drink and packed lunch if you want to stay for the Burbage extension  Transport: Members cars Cost: free Leader: Martin Kaye Numbers Limit: None.

The first part involves about a mile of easy walking around Lawrencefield Moor, then down into the upper section of Padley Gorge.  We then return to the cars giving the option of an early departure.  For those that want more, there’s an optional further 2-3 mile walk up Lawrencefield Brook to Burbage Edge.

The target species on the moor include Cuckoo and Tree Pipit while in the Gorge we would hope to see Redstart, Pied and Spotted Flycatcher and if we’re lucky, Wood Warbler.  There should also be many other more common woodland birds.  At Burbage we would hope to see Ring Ouzels.
