Moth Trapping JMNR 9th April 2015

The moth trap was set up adjacent to the garden hedge 8 pm 9th April and emptied 7.15  am 10th April. Temperature at 8 am 9ºC, Wind B1. Recorders N. Mahadevan.

Clouded Drab Orthosia incerta – 16
Hebrew Character Orthosia gothica – 4
Tufted Button Acleris cristana – 1
Chestnut Conistra vaccinii – 1
March Tubic Diurnea fagella – 1
Common Quaker Orthosia cerasi -1

Species in bold recorded for the first time on the reserve.

Two caterpillars were also attracted to the light trap, one an identified ‘looper’ moth caterpillar and the other most probably a late instar Clouded-bordered Brindle moth caterpillar.
