HOWDEN RESERVOIR    A party of 3+ Parrot Crossbills were found on the west side of the reservoir opposite Windy Corner just SE of Ridge Wood early afternoon on 2nd Dec by Roy Twigg. They were with a party of 12 Common Crossbills and only showed for a period of about 20-30 minutes. On 3rd Dec they were most elusive with eventually at least 4 birds seen early afternoon in the same area. These are the first birds to be seen in the County since 1985 when 3 juvs were in the Longshaw/Padley area in June/July. These birds are part of a small influx with up to 30 birds being present recently in Norfolk and Besrkshire.

STAUNTON HARLOD RESERVOIR    The fem/imm Common Scoter still present here on 4th Dec.

CARSINGTON WATER   The adult Great Northern Diver still present on 3rd Dec. having been found on 24th Nov. Up to 3 Hawfinches are still present here and seem to be favouring the Millfields area. A Little Egret on 2nd Dec with 6 adult Whooper Swans on 28th Nov. A female Pintail from 28th Nov-2nd Dec with up to 9 Shoveler, 157 Pochard, 6 Dunlin, 5 Ruff, 3+ Woodcock, 23 Snipe and 8 Redshank noted. A 2nd winter Yellow Legged Gull on 26/30th Nov. with a Chiffchaff on 28th Nov.

WILLINGTON GRAVEL PITS   A Great White Egret was found here on 24th Nov and although elusive at times was still present on 3rd Dec when it was seen flying East mid-morning. The Bittern also still here on 3rd Dec. Up to 21 Little Egrets are still roosting here. On 3rd Dec. 3 Little Grebes, 8 Great Crested Grebes, 18 Cormorants, 9 Grey Lag Geese, 11 Wigeon, 11 Gadwall, 6 Teal, 21 Shoveler, 2 Pochard, 37 Tufted Duck, 2 Goldeneye, 4 Water Rails, c100 Lapwing, 2 Common Gulls-ad, 1 Herring Gull-3rd winter flew West, 2 Great Black Backed Gulls-1ad, 1  2nd winter, 1 Kingfisher, 1 Stonechat 14 Blackbirds, c45 Fieldfares and 4 Ravens.

DRAKELOW DWT RESERVE   The Long Tailed Duck again present on 28th Nov/3rd Dec.

LONG EATON GRAVEL PITS   7 Whooper Swans flew East on 3rd Dec and a Jack Snipe present.

ASTON-ON-TRENT GRAVEL PITS   On 1st Dec 1 Little Grebe, 14 Great Crested Grebes, 19 cormorant, 1 Little Egret, 3 Grey Herons, 1 Shelduck, 166 Wigeon, 97 Gadwall, 111 Teal, 28 Shoveler, 127 Tufted Duck, 1 Goldeneye, 1 Sparrowhawk, 1 Green Woodpecker, 1 Great Spotted Woodpecker and a Chiffchaff.

FOREMARK RESERVOIR   On 30th Nov 5 Great Crested Grebes, 9 Cormorants, 166 Tufted Duck. 1 Goosander. The Gull roost consisted on c15,000 Black Headed Gulls, c150 Common Gulls, c2500 Lesser Black Backed Gulls, c510 Herring Gulls, 5 Caspian Gulls-4 ads and a 3rd winter and c20 Great Blacked Gulls.

LOCKO PARK LAKE   On 28th Nov. 2 Grey Herons, 51 Greylag Geese, 236 Canada Geese, 1 Greylag xCanada Goose hybrid, 1 Teal, 5 Shoveler, 2 Pochard. 18 Tufted Duck and a Common Buzzard.  

CARR VALE DWT RESERVE   During the period 23rd Nov-3rd Dec. up to 2 Little Egrets, 92 Wigeon,67 Gadwall, 38 Teal, 4 Shoveler, 3 Peregrine Falcons and 35 Golden Plover noted. A juv. Whopper Swan flew North on 3rd Dec, c170 Pink Footed Geese flew east on 26th Nov with c150 East on 28th Nov. There were 4 Goosander on 27th Nov with 1 on 2nd Dec. A Merlin on 2nd Dec with a 1st winter Caspian Gull on 21st Nov, the Cettis Warbler still present on 3rd Dec with 2 Chiffchaffs on the same date. Finally a male Brambling on 1st Dec.

OGSTON RESERVOIR   A 1st winter Caspian Gull roosted on 1st Dec. A skein of 74 Pink Footed Geese flew WNW on 2nd Dec Three Ruff on 28th Nov with a single Dunlin and a Redshank up to 30th Nov.
