Thanks to Rod Key for the following:-

DRAKELOW DWT RESERVE   On 1st Jan Richard James and Pete Hutchinson found a female/imm Hooded Merganser here. After examining photos of the bird, which spends a lot of time on its own and is full winged and showed well yesterday it is now thought that it may well be a 1st year male as the bill is all dark and does not show any trace of yellow. Also on Wednesday it did spend a few minutes with 4 Goldeneye and continually chivvied the 2 females. Obviously the presumed escape label has to be applied to the bird but we can always hope. Also still here and showing well is the female Long Tailed Duck. This reserve is only open to permit holders or DWT Members.
