News 5th April 2018

CARSINGTON WATER   The long staying adult Great Northern Diver and the drake Scaup still present on 4th Apr. An Osprey flew North on 3rd Apr and it or another was again present late morning on 4th Apr. Also on 4th Apr. a Common Tern, 3 Little Ringed Plovers, 10+ Sand Martins, 5+ Swallows and a House Martin. with  a female Wheatear on the dam wall and a Willow Warbler singing on Stones Causeway. Still up to 7 Ruff,  single Ringed Plover, Dunlin and Curlew noted along with up to 16 Goldeneye, a Shelduck and 5 Goosander. A male Wheatear on the dam wall on 3rd Apr. and an Avocet on 30th Mar found by Roger Carrington with 2 Kittiwakes on 31st Mar.

FOREMARK RESERVOIR   An Osprey flew through with a fish on 2nd Apr.

OGSTON RESERVOIR   On 28th Mar 2 Iceland Gulls-a juv. plus a 3rd winter bird roosted. A drake Pintail and a Little Ringed Plover on 31st Mar. On 3rd Apr an Osprey flew through late morning, a Red Kite, a Goshawk, a drake Pintail, C25 Sand Martins, 3 Swallows and a Willow Warbler with 6 Bramblings flying over.

CARR VALE DWT RESERVE   A juv.. Iceland Gull flew through on 4th Apr. with 2 Iceland Gulls-a juv. and a 3rd winter on 31st Mar.

MIDDLETON MOOR   2 Avocets found by Anne Johnson on 29th Mar. with a 2nd year Yellow Legged Gull on 1st Apr and a Ring Ousel flew over early morning. Sx Wheatear on 30th Mar.

DOVE HOLES/PEAK DALE   The Lapland Bunting still present on 29th Mar.

BEE LOW QUARRY   2 Mediterranean Gulls and a Kittiwake on  31st Mar.

ABBEY HILL FLOODS   A Black Tailed Godwit on 31st Mar/1st Apr.

LONG EATON GRAVEL PITS  A Black Necked Grebe n 28th Mar with 2 Jack Snipe, 4 Little Egrets and 8 Cettis Warblers on 30th Mar.

ASTON-ON-TRENT GRAVEL PITS   On 1st Apr. 1 Little Grebe, 8 Great Crested Grebes, 10 Cormorants, 10 Mute Swans, 2 Greylag Geese, 2 Egyptian Geese,  2 Wigeon, 1 Gadwall, 10 Teal, 113 Tufted Duck, 32 Goldeneye, 1 Goosander, 3 Common Buzzard and 3 Oystercatchers along with 3 singing Cettis Warblers.

CHURCH WILNE WATER SKI LAKE   On 3rd Apr. 5 Great Crested Grebes, 1 Cormorant, 1 gadwall, 27 Tufted Duck, 9 Goldeneye and 72 Coot

WILNE LANE, CHURCH WILNE   2 Yellowhammers on 3rd Apr.

AMBASTON GRAVEL PITS   On 3rd Apr 4 Little Grebes, 2 Greylag Geese, 21 Wigeon, 2 Gadwall, 17 Teal, 2 Shoveler, 7 Tufted Duck, 19 Lapwing, 2 Snipe, 1 Black Tailed Godwit and 5 Redshank.

PLEASLEY COLLIERY   6 Bar Tailed Godwits on 31st Mar.

WILLINGTON GRAVEL PITS   The Great White Egret again present on 28th Mar along with a Little Egret, 1 Shelduck, 2 Swallows, 4 Sand Martins, 4 Cettis Warblers,  and 6 Chiffchaffs.

RED KITES   During the period 28th Mar-4th Apr single birds noted at 8 localities.
