7 April 2017

2 Mute Swans, 3/4 Mandarins, 4 Gadwall, 4 Wigeon, 13 Tufteds with apparently the same returning drake Tufted/Pochard hybrid from previous years. This bird caused some confusion when it turned up the day after Derbyshire’s, to date, only Lesser Scaup in March 2013. Good job the latter was not a single observer record. Also a Red Kite NE 1020-28, an Osprey at 1300 (with fish) and again later in the afternoon, with a late report of one Saturday that’s five records in the last eight days, same bird?, different bird?, any details on rings or state of moult appreciated, Goshawk reported in the afternoon, 2 Sparrowhawks, few Buzzards, 2/3 Oystercatchers, 3 LRPlovers ( one of which left NE at 1100) with four later in the day, 2 Curlews SE with 3 in the evening. A report of a Hobby would be very early, the earliest by a week in fact here and further details would, again, be appreciated. A single House Martin, c40 Sand Martins, 11 Swallows and the expected (so far) warblers.
