JMNR Sightings – 28th May 2018

Nikki M – A rather warm afternoon on the reserve 22ÂșC.

Chiffchaff, Whitethroat, Bullfinch, Blackcap, 2 Moorhen, Great tit chicks being fed in box over Hide pond (opp. end to hide).

Peacock, Green-veined White, Orange-tip, Common Blue butterflies. Ancylis badiana, Silver-ground Carpet, Ethmia quadrillella (first site record), Grass rivulet, Nettle tap moths. Large Red, Azure and Blue-tailed damselflies, Broad-bodied Chaser, male and female Four-spotted Chasers. Other invertebrates: Marmalade hoverfly, Cantharis pellicida (a Soldier beetle), Cardinal beetle, Nursery spider, Wasp Beetle, Golden-bloomed Grey-longhorn beetle, 22-spot ladybird, Harlequin ladybird, Alderflies, Nomada fabriciana (a bee, first site record), Red-and-Black froghopper, a weevil.

Brown-lipped snail, tadpoles in Hide and Bottom Pond.

In flower: Guelder Rose in full blossom, Elderflower beginning to bloom, lots of May blossom. Spear Thistle, Cuckoo flower, Buttercup, Herb Robert, Ragged Robin, Ground ivy, Sorrel, Plantain, Speedwell, Common Vetch, Bush Vetch, Yellow Flag Iris, Blue Iris (Middle Pond), Woody Nightshade, Red Clover, Daisy, Black Medic.

1 Kestrel, 6 Swifts, 2 Swallows, Wren using box 451 in pumphouse, 1 Heron, 1 Song Thrush, 1 Blackbird, 1 Chiffchaff.
