Rufford Country Park, Notts

Meeting Point: Tarmaced Car Park next to the Lime Tree Avenue NG22 9DF just off the A614 (see map below) Time: 07:30 Lunch: bring hot drink and packed lunch if you want to stay out longer – there is a cafe. Transport: Members cars Cost: free Leader: Martin Kaye Numbers Limit: None.

The target birds here are Hawfinch and just possibly Lesser Spotted Woodpecker.  The woodland here is also rich in more common woodland birds with a fair chance of seeing Marsh Tits.  In addition, the lake provides opportunities for ‘ticking’ water birds and the surrounding alders often have flocks of Siskins and Lesser Redpolls at this time of year.

The early start is essential and will hopefully avoid some traffic problems.  Those coming from Chesterfield are best taking the A616 through Bolsover  (avoid the junction of the A617 and M1).

Gentle flat walking throughout though some parts can be a bit muddy.
